Energy Act Data Exchange Regulation Nature and environment In brief For the gas and electricity markets to function properly, large volumes of data are collected and exchanged between sector parties, for example for imbalance settlement, billing, and access to information about one’s own gas and electricity consumption. The former Gas Act and Electricity Act 1998, together with the underlying codes of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, already regulated this in considerable detail. The entry into force of the Energy Act on 1 January 2026 began a modernisation of this system. Chapter 4 of the Energy Act governs data management and data exchange.
