Numbering Policy Bill Economy In brief This consultation concerns a bill amending the Telecommunications Act in the area of issuing and using telephone numbers. It helps protect end users more effectively, especially against online fraud such as spoofing, phishing and bank-helpdesk fraud; facilitates market developments; and improves supervision of the use of telephone numbers. The bill has three main components: sub-allocation, extraterritorial use and caller-number identification. The bill was previously announced in the parliamentary letter of 16 December 2020 from former State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy Mona Keijzer concerning the approach to misuse of telecommunications facilities for phishing. An earlier version of the proposal was consulted on in 2022. Because substantial changes were subsequently made, a new consultation is considered appropriate.…
