Gigabit Infrastructure Regulation Implementing Decree Economy In brief The Gigabit Infrastructure Regulation (Gigabit Infrastructure Act, GIA) aims to accelerate the rollout of high-speed fixed and mobile networks, such as fibre and 5G, throughout the EU. It replaces the 2014 Broadband Cost Reduction Directive. The GIA is intended to help achieve the European connectivity targets, which seek full high-speed internet coverage throughout the EU by 2030. It contains various measures intended to strengthen and harmonise applicable rights and obligations in order to accelerate the rollout of very-high-capacity networks.
