The European Board for Media Services prepared and submitted to the European Commission its detailed contribution to the forthcoming review of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive 01 September 2026 Contribution of the Media Board to the ex-post evaluation and review of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive The Media Board's contribution to the AVMSD ex-post evaluation and review The European Board for Media Services (the Media Board) prepared and submitted to the European Commission its detailed contribution to the forthcoming review of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), based on the accumulated experience and analyses of regulators from the implementation of the Directive at national level. The contribution was developed through a combination of questionnaires, quantitative and qualitative analysis of data from the Member States, as well as structured discussions within the Media Board's working groups. It contains specific recommendations in fifteen key areas - from the definitions and scope of the directive, through the protection of minors and advertising rules, to the prominence of public-interest content and the resources of regulators - with the aim of ensuring that European media regulation remains effective and adapted to the rapidly changing digital environment. The results of the public consultation, in which the Media Board's contribution was also submitted, are currently being examined by the European Commission. The Commission will assess the impact and added value of the rules laid down in the AVMSD and will present proposals for their review in the third quarter of 2026.
