Labels & taxonomy
The curation is the product: every verified record carries deterministic labels applied by Vellum — themes, document types, authority tiers and evidence grades. This page documents the vocabulary. Machine-readable: registry.json.
Themes
Twenty-two curated themes, applied per record (a record may carry several). Each theme has a live public page; on the homepage map, the 22 themes are drawn as 14 visual constellations — related themes share one.
- Child safety & minors
- Protection of minors online: age assurance, children's codes, minors' data, harmful-content duties.
- Hate speech & illegal content
- Illegal-content regimes: notice-and-action, criminal content, terrorist content, hate speech.
- Data protection
- Personal-data rules intersecting platform and AI regulation: GDPR enforcement, transfers, biometric data.
- Cybersecurity
- Cyber-resilience duties: NIS2, product security, incident reporting, network security.
- Artificial intelligence
- AI-specific obligations: AI Act implementation, GPAI codes, algorithmic transparency, model governance.
- Telecoms & connectivity
- Telecoms regulation: security of networks, spectrum, connectivity infrastructure.
- Media & broadcasting
- Media law: audiovisual rules, broadcasting licences, media mergers, AVMS.
- Platform governance
- Systemic platform duties: risk assessments, audits, transparency reports, DSC coordination.

- Industrial and manufacturing measures intersecting technology regulation.

- National-security measures affecting digital services, infrastructure and data.

- Measures spanning multiple sectors or applying horizontally across the digital economy.
- Technology
- General technology-policy measures not specific to one regime.
Document types
Case law — judicial output across the record: CJEU and national court and tribunal decisions, filterable everywhere ("Case law only"). Further document classes (enforcement actions, consultations, codes) are being layered in as the curation deepens.
Authority tiers
- Primary official (P0)
- The issuing authority's own publication.
- Official (P1)
- An official carrier or register republishing authority content.
- Secondary (P2)
- A credible secondary source, clearly attributed.
- Background (B)
- Contextual material that aids interpretation.
Your own labels
Subscribers can additionally pin any record under labels of their own — a private working layer over the record that appears on their ecosystem dashboards.
